Lennon Tool Bar Winter Bamboo Shoots (冬筍) fountain pen ink is a pale brown color. When the chilly wind strongly blows, the rustling in the lofty Moso bamboo forest seemingly brings the coldness to another level. At the same time, from about 10cm under the ground are winter bamboo shoots growing up and finally emerging from the hard winter soil. Whether the bamboo is eaten or not is up to farmers. If the winter bamboo shoots are not harvested, they will keep growing up to the sky; if they are, they end up as an addition to chicken soup, which could be seen as hope in an otherwise cold winter.
The 2019 Winter Limited Series (2019冬季限定) is inspired by the changes winter brings. Mornings becomes colder and colder; sunsets becomes later and later. The sky is clean, the sunshine is pale, and the earth is quiet. But a hushed winter can also form a vivid picture. While moisture gets frozen and some plants sprout and grow, winter seems energetic.
Lennon Tool Bar was founded in 2014 at Tamsui, Taiwan. Initially they produced and promoted the art and craft of Indigo Dyeing, a business that flourished a century ago when Taiwan exported a considerable amount of “doroai” — or the raw material of colorants used in Indigo Dyeing — to the Japanese Empire. In recent years, Lennon Tool Bar has launched a series of fountain pen inks in order to popularize colors used in Indigo Dyeing and to present the enduring beauty of traditional workmanship.
